Cancelling your subscription

If Civora isn't a fit anymore, cancelling takes a minute or two. This guide covers how, what happens after, and what to expect if you come back later.

How to cancel#

  1. Open Billing from the dashboard sidebar.
  2. Click the Manage button on the subscription card. This opens the Stripe Customer Portal in a new tab.
  3. In the portal, click Cancel subscription. Stripe may ask for an optional reason — we read these.
  4. Confirm.

You get an email confirmation from Stripe, and the dashboard shows the cancellation status on the Billing page including the date your paid features end.

End-of-period cancellation#

Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, not immediately. You've already paid for the current period, so you get full use of the paid tier until that period ends, then drop to Free at the cycle boundary.

If you cancel an annual plan four months in, you keep paid features for the remaining eight months. Cancelling annual does not refund the unused months.

What happens to your data#

After your subscription ends and you drop to Free tier:

  • Servers stay connected. You don't lose your Discord integrations. Civora keeps moderating on Free-tier limits (3,000 messages/month with a 100/day cap).
  • Audit history truncates. Free retains 7 days; older entries fall out of the retention window over time. Data already aged out doesn't return if you reactivate.
  • Template and exclusions persist. Your template choice, excluded channels, and excluded roles stay where they were. Per-category customizations are still stored but become read-only on Free (you'd need to re-upgrade to edit them).

If you had more than 1 server connected on Business (which allows 5), the extras stop being moderated when you drop to Free's 1-server limit. The integrations stay in place but won't process messages until you upgrade or remove servers down to the limit.

Coming back later#

To resubscribe, open Billing and start the upgrade flow again — same Stripe Checkout as a first-time upgrade. When the new subscription is active:

  • All your prior settings — template, category customizations, exclusions — come back instantly.
  • Paused servers (if you had extra connections beyond Free) re-activate.
  • Audit history that aged out during your Free period doesn't come back — we delete data on the retention schedule. New audit data accumulates from this point forward under the new tier's retention window.

If you're hitting a problem we should know about#

If something about Civora isn't working — a missing feature, frustrating UX, support that didn't help — please tell us before you go. The Stripe cancellation reason field is one channel; another is opening a ticket from Support in the dashboard sidebar.

What's next#

  • Upgrading plans — if you're reconsidering.
  • Bot is offline — if the cancellation thought is triggered by Civora seeming broken, this often turns out to be the actual problem.
